The mind must be made clear. The heart must be opened.

The mind must be made clear. The heart must be opened. All distractions must be put aside. No more taking on extra work, extra projects, reading extra books. This will be the only book that you read. You have been given the gift of yet another chance. We might declare that it is a second chance, but we know better than that. It is probably a one hundred and forty second chance. It will be better that you die simple, clear and full of love for Christ and your fellow man, than to die full of all kinds of trivia and projects and extra plans for things you never completed.

Now, on this earth, during the duration of time that you are here, you will inevitably have to be involved in some kind of unrelated extra work that serves to support your family and your quiet process of getting cleared up. But, it can also serve the purpose of making the coming time you will have exclusively to yourself and God seem all the more exceptional and savory.

It becomes imperative to focus and re-focus continually upon the things that give you abiding peace and joy. The things that are sensational, titillating, and full of novelty are things that pick you up and drop you down low. Put those things aside, no matter how exciting they might be. Someone who succeeds in reaching a sustained place of peace is more accomplished than many who create novel, flashy fads.

The gift that you’ve been given is one of a life that lingers past the time of youthful chaos. If you use that time trying to reclaim your youth, you will die misguided and broken, a heap of a soul with only scraps to show for years of thrashing about. If you use that time to do nothing but be entertained and to fill yourself up with food and drink, then you will die impoverished to the core. If you take this time to meditate on the things that truly fill you up, you will die with a cup overflowing.
